For 2019 The Curtain unveils a confidently bold yet elegant Christmas Tree, created by fashion and textile artist Sadie Williams. Sadie has crafted a striking, shimmering & special work, through her skilful resourcefulness in up-cycling left-over materials from previous projects and collections.
Colourful abstract patches adorn the tree, each one unique, adeptly mashing together multiple textiles/beads/embellishments. Chopped-up angular forms and shards of glitter coated cottons collide with sequins, bonded velvets, swarovski, craft pipe-cleaners, lurex and more!
The vibrant energy of these decorative pieces are cooled by pairing them with a delicate base-layer of translucent silk-organza fabric, which cloaks a clean steel, pentagonal tree.
For the metal structure, Sadie further brings sustainability to the fore by collaborating with her friend Jack Hanson, who has similarly crafted this work by using left-over metal he had accumulated at his studio from previous jobs and clients.
The Christmas tree is ‘hemmed’ using vintage dead-stock sparkling ribbon, which compliments the riot of shimmering colours that jump-out and glimmer from the subtle ivory organza. Unveiled here for Christmas 2019, this has been designed so that it can be dismantled/reassembled and shine again!
